Maybe among you who love analogue photography or at least have ever bought analogue cameras would know this particular friend of ours. He’s one of our few friends from the virtual world that eventually become friends in the real life (blame it on the Facebook :p). A Jakarta based analog photographer-slash-graffitiartist-slash-entrepreneur-slash-blogger, Renaldy Fernando Kusuma or Enat for short.
Enat became familiar with analogue cameras since 2008, when Lomo were such a hit here in Indonesia. Enat started his interest in the world of analog photography by doing experiments, such as red-scales, multi-exposures, etc. In 2009, Enat and some of his friends who were active in Kaskus (Indonesian based online forum) created a community of toy / plastic cameras known as Klastic. But after 2 years as a chairman, Enat decided to continue his passion on photography himself.
“Never underestimate the power of a flyer, because one flyer could changed your life forever”
We always thought that Enat became a photographer first and then a graffiti artist later. It turned out wrong! His interest in graffiti emerged after he saw a flyer for Medium Rare event in 2005 and it filled with bio of the graffiti artists. Since then he started to draw on the wall in 2006 with the alias name MUMU and later on he joined MASE CREW in 2007. In 2012 he organized one of the most talk-about event in the world of graffiti, Indonesia Character Meeting (ICM).
Enat prefers his photograph in color rather than in black and white. The reason is simple, because he likes to photograph plants, landscape and guess what? Young girls :p His photographs are mostly inspired by some of the Asian photographers like Patrick Tsai, Kotori Kawashima, Sayaka Minemura, and Astrid Prasetianti (they made a photobook together in 2012)
A lil bit about his camera,
1. His very first camera, Fujica MA1 (he bought it at thrift market for just Rp. 15.000,- or around $1)
2. The most memorable camera, Skina Smile (memorable because of the journey he took when he finally get his hands on that)
3. The camera that he already sold and later regret doing it, Ricoh R1s
4. His dream camera, Minolta TC1
Currently Enat is active on analog photography zine called The Future of the Past with Astrid Prasentianti and their friends, created a clothing brand named Tjau, and in his works with analog photography through JellyPlayground which he started since 2009.
more photos after the jump!
“Mr. Ronny’s son”
That’s his answer when we asked, who is Renaldy Fernando Kusuma. But for us Enat is a very good friend, super creative, funny but very well-driven, and one of the tallest (182cm!). Hopefully his dream of making his solo photography exhibition, his photography book, and to make JellyPlayground as a one-stop for anything analogue for photography is within reached.
Merry Christmas, Enat!
Photos were taken during a photo session for All Day Long. Thanks to Wia & Iqra!
We made an exception for this particular Dear Friend(s) post, especially for Enat. Can you guess what it is? :p
